BUFFALO, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team fell to 1-3-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 1-0 loss to Canisius Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.
Canisius tallied the the game's only goal in the 32nd minute. Off a throw-in from Callie Good, Meghan Illsley gathered a loose ball in front of the box and found the net to give the Griffs a one-goal cushion.
The Gaels had several chances to even the score, registering seven shots in the second half. Iona held a 13-10 advantage in shots and 7-3 margin in corner kicks in the contest. Senior forward Safi Ayinde recorded a team high four shots for the Gaels, including three on goal.
Graduate goalkeeper Lauren Ferris made three stops in 78-plus minutes of action before freshman Morgan McBrier finished the contest in net. Brigid St. Leger recorded six saves for Canisius.
The Gaels are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 15) when they travel to Saint Peter's for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
