Men's Soccer Blanks Marist, 2-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Iona College men's soccer team moved to 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Marist College Wednesday evening at Tenney Stadium. The Gaels are now 5-0-1 in their last six games.

The Maroon & Gold got the only got it would need in the 10th minute. Following a foul by the Red Foxes in the box, senior midfielder Ignacio Maganto connected on the ensuing penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season. Maganto has converted both PK attempts for Iona this season.

Marist attempted seven shots in the first half following Maganto's goal, but could not get one past Iona goalkeeper Julian Petrello, who made three saves in the opening period.

The Red Foxes had their best chance to even the contest in the 74th minute of the contest, when they were awarded a penalty kick. Petrello stopped the attempt by MJ Stellwag for his fourth of five saves in the contest overall.

The Gaels added to their lead in the 87th minute when sophomore forward Jon-Luke Ferrandino scored his third goal of the year off a feed from Maganto.

Overall, Marist led 14-11 in shots, with Iona holding an 8-5 edge on attempts on target. Petrello made five saves for his fifth shutout of the year, while Mark Rajovic made six stops for the Red Foxes.

The Gaels are back in action Saturday (Oct. 11), when they welcome Canisius to Mazzella Field for a 4:00 pm start.
