Women's Basketball Stopped By Bowling Green, 80-59

BOWLING GREEN, OH - The Iona College women's basketball team continued early non-conference action with an 80-59 loss to Bowling Green Tuesday evening at the Stroh Center.

Iona was led by junior forward Joy Adams' 24 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Damika Martinez poured in 18 points in a contest where the Maroon & Gold was held to 37.7% shooting from the field.

The Gaels never led in the contest, as the Falcons opened the game by scoring the first seven points. Iona got within one, 13-12, with 12:54 remaining on a three by Martinez before Bowling Green countered with a 10-0 run. Jasmine Matthews' three-pointer with 10:41 left in the first gave the Falcons their first double-digit lead, 23-12.

The Gaels were unable to get out of the double-digit deficit for the duration of the game. Late in the first half, junior Karynda DuPree put in a layup with 25 seconds remaining to cut the margin to 36-26, before a jumper by Miriam Justinger gave Bowling Green a 12 point halftime lead.

With 13:04 remaining in the second half, the Falcons took their biggest lead of the game, 57-32, on a jumper by Abby Siefker. The Gaels responded with a 25-12 run, trimming the margin to 12, 67-55, on a layup by Adams with 3:18 remaining.

It would be as close as Iona would get late, as Bowling Green scored 13 of the game's final 17 points. The Falcons were led by Erica Donovan's 24 points and seven rebounds. Donovan was one of five BGSU players in double figures.

Iona, 1-2 on the season, next travels to Stockton, CA for a matchup with Pacific, Nov. 23 at 4:00 pm.
