LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena's go-ahead goal in the 77th minute proved to be the game winner in a 2-1 victory over the Iona College women's soccer team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Siena Field. Freshman Charlotte Stuart scored the Gaels' goal in the first half.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Maria Jones tapped the ball away from Iona keeper Morgan McBrier and was able to elude a defender to tap in her second goal of the season.
Just over five minutes later Stuart posted her team-leading fifth goal when she one-timed a long pass from teammate Safi Ayinde at the top of the box just inside the left post with 10:12 left in the first frame.
The two teams jockeyed for the go-ahead tally before Michele Tremblay took advantage of a defensive miscue and found the net inside the right post for the game-winner.
McBrier was credited with one save while Siena's Taylor Booth recorded two.
The Gaels continue MAAC play Wednesday (Oct. 1) when they host Manhattan to begin a three-game home stand. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 pm at Mazzella Field.
