Iona MSOC Suffers OT Loss To Hartford

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College men's soccer program fell 1-0 in overtime to Hartford in non-conference action at Al-Marzook Field, ending its three game winning streak.

The game was evenly played throughout its entirety, but the Hawks were able score the winning goal in the 97th minute via the foot of Javoni Simms. The senior notched his fourth goal of the season to secure the win for Hartford by knocking in a rebound from six yards out via an assist from junior Brian Richards.

Iona fired 11 shots during the game, forcing the Hawks goalkeeper David McKinnon to make three saves, all in the second half. Freshman Daniel Huerta had four shots for the Gaels, freshman Jose Angeles also pitched in three himself.

Junior Julian Petrello made two saves in the contest for the Gaels.

The Maroon and Gold will look to get back on the winning track this Wednesday, Sep. 23, at home against the Yale Bulldogs.
