NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College men's soccer team battled with Fairfield to a 0-0 draw at Mazzella Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroon & Gold's third straight shutout performance involved just allowing one shot on goal towards sophomore keeper Juan Alcantara.

Iona has held its opponent to three shots on goal or less in three straight games, and on seven occasions this season.  This afternoon's draw is the Gaels' fifth shutout effort.

Sophomore Malcolm Moreno nearly gave Iona a lead in the 38th minute.  He took a line drive shot from 15 yards and directly hit the crossbar.  The rebound fell at the feet of junior Samuel Saenz.  The midfielder buried his chance, but was called offside by the side official.

Junior Killian Colombie, who netted the game-winner at Quinnipiac last Wednesday, had a game-high four shots.  In the 14th minute, the Paris, France native was denied of a nifty one-touch goal in the 14th minute with a sprawling save by Stags freshman keeper Gordon Botterill.

Colombie and senior Luis Mendoza combined for Iona's two shots on goal in the overtime periods.  Rookie Josh Plimpton and junior Sebastian Gordillo each had one attempt on target as well.

Freshman Romero Najim made his season debut and made an immediate impact in his 58 minutes.

This afternoon's game was the seventh overtime game of the season for the Maroon & Gold.  Thus far they have a 2-2-3 record in extra time games.

Iona has a 3-2-1 MAAC record, placing it in fifth place amongst the league standings.  The Gaels return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Saint Peter's.  Kickoff scheduled for 2:00 PM in Jersey City, NJ.
