SMITHFIELD, RI - The Iona College men's and women's swimming & diving team traveled for their annual meeting with the Bryant University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Gaels were bested on both fronts by their conference rivals.
The Iona men fell prey to the host Bulldogs, 168-84. The loss us the men's first of the year, bringing its dual meet record to 3-1. The Maroon & Gold women's team dropped a 191-71 decision.
The Bryant men took the opening 200-yard Medley Relay at 1:35.07 and then extended its lead with a 1-2-3 placing in the next event, the 1000-Freesstyle. Senior co-captain, Christian Foti and junior James Barnola touched first and second in the 200-Freestyle at 1:47.40 and 1:47.96 to end the Bulldog stretch. Foti would also capture the 500-Freestyle in 4:51.59. The pair of golds by the veteran would be the only individual wins for the men's program.
The Iona women posted one solo win on the day from sophomore Alyssa Chain in the 50-Freestyle at 24.63. The Gaels picked up second place efforts from freshman Adrienne Bilello in the 1000-Freestyle, senior Alexandra DiBiase in the 200-Butterfly, and freshman Willow Lopez-Silvers in the 100-Freestyle
"Bryant swam very well today and we did race hard, we were just not sharp enough to challenge them today. We will get back to work on Monday and be ready for Monmouth and Providence on November 10 and 11," commented Head Coach Nick Cavataro.
