NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Before a capacity senior day crowd at the Hynes Center Pool, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals squared off in a spirited affair that featured tightly contested events up and down line-up. At the end the visiting Fairfield Stags claimed a 196-92 win on the women's side and the host Iona Gaels took a 175-113 win in the men's meet.
Individually on the women's side, sophomore Alyssa Chain and junior Maria DiBella claimed respective wins in the 50-yard Free and 200-Back at 24.48 and 2:09.59. Seniors Elizabeth Kaczmarek, and juniors Jusnimrat Kohli and Jessica Schmidt claimed second place points in the 200-IM, diving events, and 200-yard Back.
The men's side saw senior Christopher Vadala lead the way with a pair of wins in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke at 1:01.09 and 2:11.34. Other winners on the men's side included sophomore Matthew Anderson in the 1,000-Free, senior Christian Foti in the 200-Free, senior Zack Holbrook in the 50-Free and freshmen Spencer Moran in the 200-yard Back.
The Iona men's 200-Medley relay team of junior Matthew Bosse, Vadala, rookie Conor Mullin and freshman Delano Townsend picked up a win at 1:38.67 with Foti, Moran, Holbrook and senior Kyle Desrosiers posting a season best time of 3:11.49 in the victorious 400-Free Relay.
Iona travels next week to the Bronx and the Fordham University's Rose Hill campus.
