BRONX, NY – Both Iona College men's and women's swimming & diving programs fell to the Fordham Rams in their final non-conference dual meet of the 2017-18 season. The men's program fell 131-94 while the women's team fell short, 150-75.
Senior co-captain Christian Foti shined on the men's side with a pair of individual wins in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle; he touched the wall in 1:45.04 and 4:42.81 respectively. Sophomore Matt Anderson came on top in the 1,000-yard freestyle with the fastest time of 9:49.75. Iona's final solo victory on the male side came from senior Christopher Vadala in the 200-yard breaststroke and his 2:21.12 time.
On the women's side, the only individual champion was rookie Kate DiRaimo in the 200-yard breaststroke. She touched the wall first in 2:33.95. The Gaels wrapped up the event with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Kate Flynn, junior Jessica Schmidt, sophomore Simone Sturrup, and senior Elizabeth Kaczmarek combined to touch first in 1:42.76.
The final regular season dual meet is this upcoming Saturday, Jan. 27, at Manhattan. The Gaels and Jaspers kick-off at 1 PM from Riverdale, NY. It'll be the final tune up for the Maroon & Gold before the MAAC Championship come the second week of February.
