RESULTS
RIVERDALE, NY – The Iona College swimming & diving programs ended its regular season with resounding performances against Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. The women's team upended the Jaspers 182-77 and the men's squad dominated, 197 to 61.
Freshman Spencer Moran, senior Christopher Vadala, junior Conor Mullin, and senior Zach Holbrook began the meet winning the 200-yard medley relay. Soon after sophomore Brian Connors and senior Christian Foti each touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle. The two picked up additional wins later on in the meet; Foti won the 100-yard freestyle and Bosse took first in the 200-yard backstroke
Upperclassmen Matthew Bosse and Sam Braziel won the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard breaststroke races. The rookie tandem of Gabriel Finch and Delano Townsend followed their teammates up with strong first-place efforts in the 200-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle.
Vadala returned to the top of the pedestal a second time with a first place effort in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Matthew Anderson won the 500-yard freestyle by more than 15 seconds.
The women's dominance began with junior Maria DiBella, freshman Kate DiRaimo, senior Alex DiBiase, and sophomore Alyssa Chain taking home the 200-yard medley relay.
Freshman Adrienne Bilello led a top-three sweep in the 1000-yard freestyle. Senior Elizabeth Kaczmarek won the 200-yard freestyle and DiBella followed suit with a tight win in the 100-yard backstroke over teammate, rookie Willow Lopez Silvers.
The 200-yard butterfly was dominated by DiBiase, and Chain took the 50-yard freestyle in 24.97. Junior Jessica Schmidt conquered the 200-yard backstroke by six seconds. DiBella, Chain and Kaczmarek closed out the meet with wins in the 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard IM.
Iona will next take to the pool at the 2017-18 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championship in Buffalo, NY beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
