Siena Edges Out Iona MBB 82-78 In Overtime

The Saints outscored the Gaels 16-12 in the overtime session.

ALBANY, NY – Siena knocked down 5-of-6 field goals in overtime to upend the Iona College men's basketball this evening 82-78 at the Times Union Center in MAAC play.

Evan Fisher scored 10 of his 21 points in the extra session for the Saints (8-19, 4-10 MAAC) to help outscore the Gaels (16-11, 10-5 MAAC) 16-12. Fisher, who tied a career-high, knocked down two 3-pointers to start the overtime period and later his two free throws to extend the Siena lead to three points with 12 seconds remaining.

Prior to Fisher's two free throws, Rickey McGill brought the deficit to one point after the Maroon & Gold had trailed by as many as six points in overtime. After Fisher's free throws, a corner 3-pointer from Zach Lewis with eight seconds left rimmed out and allowed Kadeem Smithen to push the game to 82-78 with just five seconds left.

Roland Griffin tallied his fourth 20-point outing in the last six games with 21 points behind 9-of-11 from the free throw line to go along with nine rebounds. TK Edogi recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Ricky McGill posted 13 points and seven assists while E.J. Crawford notched 15 points. Zach Lewis hit three 3-pointers towards 11 points.

Khalil Richard led Siena with a game-high 22 points while also adding five rebounds and four assists. Fisher added nine rebounds to his 21 points. Jordan Horn finished with 18 points and Prince Oduro chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

In the effort, Iona outscored Siena in the paint 44-24, which also helped to a 14-4 edge in second chance points despite Siena controlling a 40-34 rebounding margin. Neither team led by more than six points in the contest that featured six ties and 10 lead changes.

After three games in five days, Iona is next in action on Friday by hosting Niagara at 7 pm inside the Hynes Center.
