POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – A 15-0 run in the first half helped jump start the Iona College men's basketball team to a 98-64 MAAC victory at Marist College this afternoon.
Every individual scored for the Maroon & Gold (15-9, 9-3 MAAC) this afternoon, led by 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc by
Deyshonee Much.
E.J. Crawford finished with 18 points and four rebounds while
Schadrac Casimir and
Roland Griffin each chipped in 10 points.
Despite not reaching double-figures, both
Rickey McGill and
Zach Lewis filled the stat sheets. McGill ended his afternoon with seven points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals as eight of his assists came in the first half. Meanwhile, Lewis posted eight points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Iona scored 55 points in the opening half, the most in a first half this season, that included 11 made 3-pointers, the most in any half this year. The Maroon & Gold finished the day with 15 made 3-point field goals, the fourth time the team has made at least 15 in a game this season.
Leading 11-9 nearly five minutes into the game, Iona generated a 15-0 spurt in four minutes to push the game open. The margin grew to as large 29 points in the period before Iona took a 55-30 lead into the break.
A dunk by
TK Edogi off a Lewis assist gave the Gaels their first 30-point lead of the afternoon with 12:36 left in regulation. The spread ballooned to as large as 41 points in the final stages following a Crawford 3-pointer with 4:47 to go.
In the effort, the Gaels scored 23 points off of 16 Marist turnovers while only committing seven. In the effort for the Red Foxes (5-19, 3-9 MAAC), Brian Parker notched 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Aleksandar Dozic added 13 points and seven rebounds.
The margin of victory was the largest for Iona since a 35-point victory against Marist on December 4, 2015.
The Gaels return to action this Thursday by hosting Monmouth for a 7 pm tip from the Hynes Center.
