NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team was upended on Saturday, 58-46 by Niagara. The Purple Eagles used a 20-point outburst in the fourth quarter to extend its win streak.
GAME SUMMARY
Iona scored a season-best 22 points in the first quarter, getting contributions from all seven players that logged minutes. Redshirt sophomore

Morgan Rachu knocked down three-pointers in the frame, and a last-second driving layup from rookie
Juana Camilion capped off the scoring.
Iona extended its lead at the start of the second frame with a bucket from junior transfer
Jodi-Marie Ramil. The Purple Eagles then went on a 10-0 run over the following six minutes, holding the Maroon & Gold without a field goal for the remainder of the period. Lesko knocked down four free throws to account for the rest of the teams points in the half.
Down just five points coming out of the locker room, the Gaels allowed Niagara to convert on three-point play opportunity. Iona, however, used an 8-0 run, highlighted by seven combined free throws from Lesko and junior
Amelia Motz, tying things up at 36. Camilion would score the final three points of the quarter after a Niagara bucket to put Iona on top once more, 39-38, heading into the final frame.
The Purple Eagles converted on both of its and-one chances in the first minute of the final quarter to go up 44-39. Freshman
Gabrielle Joseph ended that run with a turnaround hook in the lane, but Niagara kept scoring. Another 6-0 run extended the lead to nine points. Iona would stop the run again, but Niagara continued to string together consecutive points, sinking Iona down the stretch.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Iona's 22 first-quarter points are a season-best for the team in any quarter of this season.
- Defensively, the Maroon & Gold drew six charges, one in each quarter of the game. Lesko drew a game-high three player control fouls.
- Lesko registered the first double-double of the season for any Gael, amassing team-highs in points (11) and rebounds (12).
- The Gaels converted on a season-most 12 free throws. Niagara outdid Iona from the charity stripe however, converting on 17 of its 26 opportunities.
- The Maroon & Gold outrebounded Niagara, 38-29, with an impressive 13-6 edge on the offensive glass.
- The lead switched hands 13 times throughout the course of the contest, with Iona having led for just seven minutes and change.Â
- The two teams combined to shoot just 5-24 from beyond the arc. Barefield and Rachu were responsible for Iona's two three-point field goals.
- Iona finished the contest missing its last four field goal tries and converting on just one of its last nine attempts.

Iona wraps up its three-game home stand against Rider on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7:00 p.m. The contest will be the first GaelGate of the season, sponsored by Coca-Cola. The pre-game event will take place in Mulcahy Gym beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the first 100 students who arrive will receive a ticket to the men's game against Marist on Friday, Jan. 18.
