NEW ROCHELLE, NY - A six-goal first-half deficit was too much for the Iona Lacrosse team (0-5) to overcome as they fell to the Brown Bears 14-6 Saturday at Mazzella Field.
GAME SUMMARY
The Bears raced out to a 2-0 advantage nine minutes into the contest before
Danielle Keenan notched her third goal of the season to put the Gaels on the board. After
Madi Kochanek was able to even the score, Brown scored four unanswered tallies to open up a 6-2 advantage with 6:13 left in the half.
Sara Stewart's sixth tally of the year brought the Gaels back within three with 5:08 left in the first half but the Bears put three more up on the scoreboard in a span of 1:14 for a six-goal lead at the break.
Iona was unable to contain the Bears in the second half, as Brown scored five more unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes before
Christine Gironda broke Iona's 27-minute scoreless drought. The senior tri-captain followed up with her fourth tally of the season and with 11 seconds left
Megan Collins found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Shannon McCaffrey stopped 10 Browns shots in net.
- The Bears outshot the Gaels 39-19 with 24 coming on-net.
- Brown held a strong advantage on draw controls, 18-4.
