NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona trailed at halftime by just one score, but Monmouth ran away in the second half against the Gaels (1-10, 0-2) Wednesday at Mazzella Field, falling to the Hawks 13-8.
GAME SUMMARY
The Gaels were once again led by the newcomers, with seven of their scores coming from freshmen, including the first two collegiate goals by Gabrielle Thornton.
Emma Rippon added two tallies, and
Kati Paavola added a score her to giver her sole possession of the team-lead.

Monmouth opened the game scoring three of the first four goals. With 19:02 left in the half, Thornton connected for her first career goal and was followed by
Katherine Meyer and Rippon to put the Gaels ahead 4-3. The hawks responded, scoring four of the next five scores of the half.
Christine Gironda found
Nora Carpenter with three minutes in the half to cut Iona's deficit to one.

The Hawks scored five unanswered goals in the second half, capped off by Allison Turturro's fifth goal of the game. With 12:54 to play, Rippon found the back of the net for the 10
th time this season and eight minutes later
Madi Kochanek found Thornton for Iona's final tally.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Shannon McCaffrey made six saves in net and grabbed four ground balls
- Iona outshot the Hawks 24-23 and the teams were even in ground balls with 27
- Monmouth controlled 15-of-23 draws.
- Rippon has now recorded a multi-goal performance four times this season
