Lacrosse Scores Season-Best 14 Goals In Defeat To Quinnipiac

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In a game that saw 31 total goals scored, the Iona Lacrosse team (1-11, 0-3) were on the losing end of a 17-14 defeat to Quinnipiac Wednesday afternoon at Mazzella Field.

GAME SUMMARY

The teams played to a 6-6 tie over the first 15:31 of play as the teams traded goals and neither team led by more than one. Danielle Keenan was the first to find the back of the net, Christine Gironda scored twice and Emma Rippon scored three times for her second career hat trick. With 10:25 left in the half, Quinnipiac's Allison Kuhn scored twice in 49 seconds to put the Bobcats up a pair, but Iona responded six minutes later, as Caton Brisbin and Leah Marshall tied the game at 8-8.
 
Five goals were scored in the first 4:12, with four coming from Quinnipiac, opening a 12-9 advantage for the Bobcats. Iona stormed back, starting with a Madi Kochanek score off a feed from Marshall. Maureen Murphy rocketed one into the upper corner and Marshall followed suit with her 13th goal of the season to tie the game at 12-12. After two Quinnipiac tallies were added, Gabrielle Thornton scored her third goal of the season to bring the Gaels back within one with 12:13 to play. The Bobcats held the Gaels scoreless over the next 12 minutes and padded their lead with four more goals before Leah Marshall scored on a free possession shot with seven seconds remaining.

  • Shannon McCaffrey stopped seven Bobcats shots in the defeat.
  • Iona outshot the Hawks 38-29 and grabbed 30 ground balls.
  • Quinnipiac held the advantage in draw controls (21-12) and saves (12-7).

  • Emma Rippon secured her second career hat-trick and has scored five goals in the past two games.
