Seton Hall Defeats Iona At City Park, 7-0

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College bats were quelled by the visiting Seton Hall Pirates at City Park on Saturday afternoon. Five pitchers combined to no-hit the Maroon & Gold. The Gaels worked strong at-bats and had opportunities to capitalize with eight walks but were hit without a hit for the first time since the 2015 season.

GAME SUMMARY

Seton Hall's Noah Thompson started the game but was ejected before the start of the third inning for a foreign substance on his arm. Tyler Burnham took over and so began the relay of pitchers limiting the Maroon & Gold offense.

Burnham went 3.2 innings, working around five walks and a hit batter in the 17 batters he faced. Iona left two runners on base in the third, fourth and sixth innings while Burnham was throwing.

The final 3.1 innings of the games were tossed by Nick Payero, Hunter Waldis and Sean Miller. Waldis had to battle through a pair of walks in the eighth before sending it to Miller for the final three outs which he got in order.

Iona's Hunter Sibley began the game and went the first three innings surrendering six runs, four earned. Seton Hall have five hits and two walks against him. Freshman Michael Untracht entered in the fourth inning and pitched four shutout innings. He walked four but allowed just one hit. Sophomore Michael DeSanti pitched the eighth inning and allowed one run on one hit and one walk. Junior Jason Goetz pitched a scoreless ninth.

Seven different Iona batters drew a walk. Graduate Jon Budesa drew a team-high two.
