RIVERDALE, NY – After surging to a one-goal deficit at halftime, the Gaels struggled to find offensive consistency in the second half, falling to Manhattan 14-8.
GAME SUMMARY
Iona jumped out to a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the game, getting goals from captains Danielle Keenan and Libby Miller. The Maroon & Gold went into a scoreless drought for the next 17 minutes as Manhattan took advantage with five goals. With 5:06 left in the half, Iona scored three of the final four goals, beginning with Caton Brisbin's second goal of the season. After Grace Lipponer put the Jaspers back up three, Katherine Meyer found both Madi Kochanek and Keenan in the final minute to pull the Gaels within one, 6-5 at the break.
The Jaspers pulled away in the second half, scoring five of the first six goals over a 15-minute span with Iona's goal coming from Leah Marshall. Manhattan's Caitlin Murphy answered a Katherine Meyer goal and Marshall scored with 5:13 to play to cut Iona's deficit to 12-8. The Gaels were held off the scoreboard for the remainder and Manhattan tacked on two more goals.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- McCaffrey made 12 stops in net, her eighth 10+ save effort this season.
- Manhattan registered 33 shots opposed to Iona's 20.
- The Jaspers held the advantage in draw controls (13-11) and ground balls (24-19).
- Keenan recorded her first multi-goal performance of the season.
- Marshall recorded her fifth-straight multi-goal game and has 13 goals over that span.
