MATCH SUMMARY
The Maroon & Gold and Huskies had three ties and two lead changes in the first set. The Gaels were within one point over the homestretch of the set, even managing to tied it at 23. Connecticut got the two final points from Alexandria Garland and Jasmine Davis to open the match up one game up. Iona had 13 kills in the first set, hitting at a .200 percentage and having a kill percentage of .325.
Four lead changes in the second set concluded when the Huskies went on an 8-1 run to take an 18-10 lead. Iona responded with four straight points in an attempt to get back in the game, but UConn answered with four of their own and went on to win the second set, 25-16. The Gaels did not record a kill after its four-point stretch getting to 14 points.
UConn led the decisive third set from straight to finish. Iona was held to a match-low eight kills as a team despite hitting a match-best .219. The Huskies had a match-best 21 kills and .386 attack percentage.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Iona hit a season-best .147 as a team against the Huskies. It also tied a season-best with six aces, matching the total against Rhode Island (Aug. 31).
- Redshirt senior Jessica Paolucci had a team-high 12 digs. Connolly hit a team-best .474 on 19 attacks.
- Sophomore Maile Powell led Iona with 19 assists. Smith contributed eight helpers.
- Connecticut's Caylee Parker had a match-high 18 kills on 33 swings, hitting at a .424 clip.
- The Gaels fall to 1-4 all-time against UConn. They have dropped three straight against the Huskies. Iona's lone victory came in 2012 on the West Coast in Los Angeles, CA.
