NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Fresh off a six-day training trip, which featured some of the semester's most challenging workouts, the Iona College men's and women's swim team swamped the visiting Adelphi University Panthers today in a dual meet at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool.
Winning fourteen of the fifteen events contested, the Iona women rolled to a 189-75 victory. The men touched first in all 14 events en route to a 158-47 win. The triumph raised the women's season mark to 7-3 and the men's record to 6-2.
Leading the charge for the Iona women with a pair of wins each was
Grace Curry (100 and 200-yard butterfly);
Kate DiRaimo (100 and 200-breaststroke); and
Taylor Spillman (1,000-free and 200-individual medley).
Other winners included:
Luiza Da Silveira (100-backstroke);
Kate Flynn (100-freestyle);
Isabelle Pabon (200-freestyle);
Meghan Pattison (200-backstroke); and
Simone Sturrup (50-freestyle).
On the men's side, Matthew Anderson touched first in the 500-freestyle and 200-individual medley.
Emil Bajramovic grabbed the first two wins of his career in the 100 and 200-breaststroke.
Daniel Hadary took the 200 and 100-freestyle races, while
Spencer Moran touched first in the 100 and 200-backstroke events.
Conor Mullin took the 50-freestyle and 100-butterfly.
Other winners on the men's side included
James Whaley (200-butterfly) and
Robert Wisniewski (1000-free).
The men and women hit the pool again on Wednesday, January 15 as they square off against inter-county rival, Pace University, at 5:00 pm at the Hynes Athletics Center Pool.
