New Rochelle, NY – Iona College Director of Athletics Matt Glovaski announced
12 Days to Fight the Good Fight, a campaign in support of Iona student-athletes during unprecedented times. From December 1 through December 16, friends of the Maroon & Gold are asked to make a philanthropic gift in support of its programs.
Over the last eight months, Iona Athletics saw events usually responsible for generating more than $300,000 annually canceled, postponed, or altered, while the department also incurred unforeseen expenses. The funds raised through 12 Days to Fight the Good Fight will go towards continued efforts to keep Iona student-athletes safe during the challenges presented by the pandemic, COVID testing and related expenses, operational support for teams, nutritional needs for student-athletes, and more.
"Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we unfortunately had to cancel several traditional alumni engagement and fundraising events last spring and this fall," said Glovaski. "Our teams rely heavily on these events and initiatives to generate the funds necessary to run their programs, even during normal years. The challenges of the last several months have impacted our teams greatly, and we need the generous support of our alumni and friends now more than ever."
Tuesday, December 1 is Giving Tuesday, a global initiative started in 2012 that encourages acts of kindness, generosity, and philanthropic giving. Over the past two years especially, Iona Athletics saw an increased outpouring of support for its teams on Giving Tuesday. This year, Iona Athletics made the decision to begin this campaign on Giving Tuesday, but spend 12 days celebrating its teams and giving each the opportunity to tell its story and share the impact contributions have on Iona student-athletes.
"Rather than focusing on a single giving day we wanted to broaden the campaign to give our supporters a longer window in which to participate throughout the season of giving," said Senior Associate AD for External Affairs
Tom Moran. "The plan is to highlight the impact giving has on each of our teams over the 12 days. We are blessed to have such a tremendous group of alumni, parents, sponsors, and friends that I know will once again step up when our teams need it most!"
A calendar of which teams will be highlighted each day during the campaign is below. To make a gift, visit the
