NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team defeated Fairfield 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Mazzella Field.
Kedarjah Lewis and
Faith Preziosi both scored their team-leading fourth goals of the season to help Iona win its third straight contest.
Lewis started the party early on homecoming, heading home a pass from the corner by Andrea Ferrer in the sixth minute.Â
Â
Emma Havrilla made big play after big play for Iona, coming off of her line on multiple occasions to snatch dangerous crosses out of the air. The plays she made aren't reflected on the stat sheet, but they were pivotal in Iona maintaining its one-goal advantage.
Late in the match, a counter-attack for the Gaels led to a one-on-two chance for Lewis and Preziosi. Dribbling with space and Preziosi to her left, Lewis elected to try for goal, missing wide of the cage.Â
Fairfield managed to get it back down into the offensive third, but another defensive clear for Iona sent Preziosi on a breakaway the other direction. Faith made one move to beat the keeper to her right, grounding a shot into the back of the net in the 89th minute. The Gaels moved to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in league play with the victory.
