VESTAL, NY - Despite the sixth consecutive meet with three individual wins by
Michael Faughnan and a pair of wins by
Isabella Nicholson, the Iona College men's and women's swim team lost on the road at Binghamton University today in a meeting between the America East and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference squads.
The Iona Men went down 196-92, while the Iona women lost 179-115. The Iona Men stand at 4-2 on the season and the women are 5-2.
Meet Summary
Faughnan, a sophomore, took the 1000-Yard-Free (9:46.62), the 200-Free (1:42.30) and the 500-Free (4:38.69). Other winners on the men's side included Graduate students,
Conor Mullin in the 200-Butterfly (1:54.73) and
Spencer Moran in the 100-Backstroke (52.14).
Nicholson claimed the top spot in the 200-Freestyle (1:55.91) and 100-Freetsyle (53.13).
Juniors Luisa Da Silveira,
Meghan Pattison and
Taylor Spillman all won with Da Silveira touching the wall first in the 100-Backstroke (1:00.41). Pattison finished the Backstroke sweep with her first win of the season in the 200-Backstroke (2:10.87). Spillman went wire-to-wire in winning the 200-Butterfly (2:11.50).
The Iona women's closed the day out with the squads' only relay win, taking the 400-yard Freestyle Relay as Katherine lee,
Megan Josephs,
Samantha Whitney and Nicholson combined to win by 2.6 seconds at 3:40.18.
Coach's Comments
"We competed well today," commented Coach
Nick Cavataro, however, Binghamton took all the close races and had more quality in spots than we had. We will get back to practice Monday and get ready for Southern Connecticut State University next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hynes Center Pool."
