HAMDEN, CT - After being down 7-4 at halftime the Gaels used a strong second half to complete the comeback and force overtime, after three overtime periods Iona dropped the thriller 15-14. The Maroon & gold were led on offense by captains

Erin O'Donnell and junior
Gabriele Thornton all with three goals apiece. In net for the Gaels, senior
Elyse Darcy came up big in overtime with 14 saves in the game, four coming in overtime.
GAME SUMMARY
In the first 10 minutes the Gaels put five shots on net with Caton Brisbin firing a shot on goal at the 20 minute mark, but was stopped by the Quinnipiac net minder once again for her fifth save.
After a Darcy save at the 18 minute mark Emma Rippon earned a free position opportunity on their next offensive possession, the Junior decided to pull it out and the Maroon & Gold got back to work but ended up empty.
After trading turnovers with the Bobcats, the Gaels came up empty once again after a missed opportunity by Leah Marshall. With 13:22 left in the first half, Iona called timeout after a quick transition goal by Quinnipiac to make the deficit four.
After the timeout Quinnipiac secures the draw control and finds the back of the net to take a 5-0 lead with 12:26 left in the first half. Iona earns their first draw control of the game and ends the offensive possession with yet another saved shot by the keeper of Quinnipiac. The first goal of the game for the Gaels comes at 10:49 by senior Madi Kochanek.
Paulina Perkovich makes a big defensive stop, and after a pair of Darcy saves, Thornton uses her speed to get to the edge and sneak one past the goalie to cut the deficit to three. The Bobcats answer quickly on a free position shot to make it 6-2 game with 5:21 left in the half. Iona answers right back with a free position goal from senior Erin O'Donnell.
With 1:49 left on the clock O'Donnell finds the back of the net again, to make it a 6-4 game. A minute later the Bobcats get one past Darcy to retain their three goal lead at halftime.
The Gaels opened the second half on a five goal run to take a 9-7 lead with 18 minutes left in the game. After the Bobcats first goal of the second half came at the 17 minute mark but Brisbin answered right back to make it a 10-8 game and then Marshall scored her second of the game to extend the Iona lead to three.
O'Donnell with a beautiful assist finding a cutting Brisbin to give the Gaels a 12-8 lead with 14:25 left. Quinnipiac finds the back of the net to keep the deficit a reasonable three. After cutting it to three, the Bobcats scored two quick goals to make it a one goal lead for the Maroon & Gold.
After an Iona timeout freshman Micaela FitzPatrick scores a big goal for the Gaels giving them a two goal lead. Seconds later Captain Leah Marshall used all the speed she's got, going through all Quinnipiac defenders to extend the lead to three goals, 14-11 with 6:55 left to play.
The Bobcats continue to hang around capitalizing on another free position opportunity to make it a 14-12 game. Quinnipiac gets one more to make a one goal game, with 5 minutes left to play. With 2:43 left on the clock the Bobcats score their third unanswered goal to tie it at 14. After a shot clock violation by the Gaels, Quinnipiac calls a timeout with :47 left in regulation. After a couple chances in the final seconds by the bobcats, regulation ends in a tie at 14-14.
Quinnipiac controls the draw to start overtime and Elyse Darcy comes up with a huge save on the Bobcats opening offensive possession. With :35 left in the first half of overtime Brisbin hits the post!!! Second half of overtime started like the first with the Bobcats controlling the draw. Another huge save by Darcy on a Quinnipiac free position shot with 2:00 minutes on the clock kept this game tied.
After a foul on Quinnipiac, senior Madi Kochanek missed a golden opportunity on a free position shot which sent the game into double overtime. The start of double overtime started the same as the first one with Quinnipiac winning the draw. Darcy continued to make big saves after big saves in overtime. But after a costly turnover by the Maroon & Gold, the Bobcats ended the game with a goal with just :27 ticks left in double overtime, winning 15-14.
