Iona Lacrosse Falls To Quinnipiac, 19-15

Comeback late in second half comes up short for the Gaels.

HAMDEN, CT - Iona women's lacrosse team are still searching for their first win after falling to Quinnipiac this afternoon, 19-15. The Gaels were led on offense with seven different goal scorers led by Emily Stewart and Caton Brisibin with four each and Leah Marshall netting a hat trick each.

Elyse Darcy started the game for the Maroon & Gold, making nine saves and allowed 15 goals, Sydney Danseglio saw her first action of her career making four saves while allowing four goals.

As a team Iona fired at the net 39 times with 30 of them on goal, picked up 14 ground balls and controlled the draw 20 times out of the 36 total draws. On defense they had 13 saves and caused 4 turnovers.  

GAME SUMMARY

After a good start in the first half, trading goals with the Bobcats in the first eight minutes. The Gaels jumped to an early two goal lead just seven minutes into the game. The next two goals came from the home team before Brisbin found the back of the net for her first of the day. 

Over the last 12 minutes of the first half the Gaels would be out scored 8-3 and the Bobcats took an 11-7 lead going into halftime. In the first half Emma Rippon, Sara Stewart, and Madi Kochanek all found the back of the net. Junior Megan Collins dished out two assists.

The start of the second half went all Quinnipiac, as they scored three quick goals in the first three minutes to extend their lead to seven goals. Emily Stewart scored the Gaels first goal of the second half, at the 25 minute mark on a free position opportunity. Three minutes later Brisbin would secure her hat trick off another assist from Collins. 

Just as Iona closed the gap to five, Quinnipiac answered with two of their own to keep the deficit at seven. The Gaels would out score the Bobcats 6-3 over the last 12 minutes of the game but the comeback came up short for the Maroon & Gold.

UP NEXT

Iona is on the road once again on Friday Mar 26 against the Red Foxes of Marist. Scheduled for a 7 pm start time.
