LOUDONVILLEY, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team lost at Siena on Thursday afternoon, 6-0. The Gaels allowed three goals in the opening 10 minutes of action and faced a 5-0 deficit heading into the final 45 minutes of play at Hickey Field.
MATCH SUMMARY
Siena scored three times in the opening 10 minutes of play, putting the Gaels in a deep hole early on. The Saints did not let up, scoring a fourth goal in the 19th minute and ending
Emma Havrilla's day in net.
Angelina DeCicco relieved Havrilla for the Maroon & Gold, stopping the first shot she faced, just barely getting a hand on the shot and forcing it away from danger. Minutes later though, DeCicco took down an opponent in the box, leading to a penalty kick and a fifth first-half goal for Siena.
When all was said and done in the opening 45 minutes of action, the Saints had a 5-0 lead on the scoreboard, a 12-2 edge in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Siena built upon its already sizable lead in half number two. Jayanna Monds tapped one over the head of DeCicco, who incurred contact on the play, putting the match even further out of reach for Iona.
The Gaels did not get anything going offensively, eventually falling 6-0 in the season opener for the Siena Saints.
