NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona women's lacrosse is defeated on senior day by Canisius with a score of 18-8. Canisius had four different players notched a hat trick in today's contest. The Maroon & Gold honored its seven seniors before today's game.

GAME SUMMARY

Canisius opened the game with a 3-0 run, before the Gaels got on the scoreboard off an Emily Stewart goal, her sixteenth of the season. The Griffs went on their second 3-0 run of the game and jumped to a 6-1 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. Sara Stewart found the back of the net to make it a four goal game.

Over the last seven minutes of the first half Canisius out scored Iona 4-1, the Maroon & Gold's lone goal over that span came from Katherine Meyer off a beautiful feed from Megan Collins. In the first half Iona recorded 12 shots with seven of them on goal. In net in the first half Elyse Darcy was credited with six saves.

Leah Marshall scored the first goal of the second half at the 26:03 mark. After the Gaels goal the Griffs went on yet another big run, 5-0 to jump to a commanding 15-4 lead. Over the last 12 minutes the Gaels were able to out-score the visitors 4-3, goals came from both Stewarts, both having two each.

As a team the Maroon & Gold picked up 17 ground balls, controlled 15 draws and caused 7 turnovers, all six saves for the Gaels came in the first half. Freshman Sydney Danseglio entered the game with 16 minutes left and allowed four goals.
