Preziosi's Two Goals Help Iona Defeat St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon, defeating St. Bonaventure 2-1 on the road. Senior Faith Preziosi scored twice in the match, while classmate Emma Havrilla and the Gaels' defense held off a late push by the Bonnie offense.

The scoring opened in the 15th minute when Preziosi scored on an assist by junior Kiera Haggerty. Iona's 1-0 lead would hold through the remainder of the first half. Preziosi found the back of the net again, in the 79th minute, padding the cushion for the Maroon & Gold.

St. Bonaventure cut the deficit in half on a Cristina Torres goal with exactly two minutes left on the clock. The Bonnies did not have another chance towards the net, allowing the Gaels to close out their first win of the year.

NOTABLE NUGGETS

  • Preziosi scored her first goal of the season in the 16th minute. It was the Parsippany, New Jersey native's first goal since scoring twice in the 2019 regular-season finale at Rider.
  • The assist was credited to Haggerty, her first point of the season and the second assist of the junior's career.
  • Preziosi's second goal made it the fourth multi-goal game of her career.
  • Havrilla faced two shots in net during the first half, stopping both. She finished with four saves altogether, allowing the one goal.
  • After not having a corner kick opportunity against Boston College, the Maroon & Gold had five chances from the corner on Sunday.
  • The Bonnies had more total shots (14-9) in the match, but Iona finished with more shots on goal (6-5).
  • Graceann Murphy finished with a team-high three shots and tied for the team lead with two shots on goal.
  • St. Bonaventure's Torres tried a game-high five shots, scoring the Bonnies' lone goal.
