Iona WSOC Downed on the Road at Niagara

LEWISTON, NY - The Iona University women's soccer team fell on the road at Niagara, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Gaels became the seventh straight team to be shutout by the Purple Eagles, falling below .500 in league play.

MATCH SUMMARY

Niagara needed just six minutes to open up a 1-0 lead, scoring on the strength of an Emma Bough strike on a pass she received from Annie Ibey. Later on, in the 30th minute, the duo combined for another goal. This time, Ibey was the benefactor of a pass from Bough, beating Emma Havrilla on the short side to extend Niagara's lead to two goals.

Iona registered just one shot in the first half, a Faith Preziosi try that sailed wide. Ibey nearly had a second goal to give the Purple Eagles a three-goal lead, but her shot in the 44th minute hit the crossbar. Caroline Scott would start the second half in goal for Iona, facing three shots that all missed the target. Iona managed just two more shots in the second half offensively, finishing the day with three total, none of which were on goal.

NOTABLE NUGGETS

  • Iona managed just three shots during the contest, none of which were on goal. Niagara registered 11 total shots, three of which were on target. It marks the first time since September 5, 2019 that Iona was held without a shot on goal in a match.
  • Havrilla was credited with the lone save of the match, a 33rd minute stop on a Ibey shot.
