HAMDEN, CT - The Iona University volleyball team took down Quinnipiac in four-sets (25-21,17-25, 25-20, 25-22) to earn their six straight win on Saturday Afternoon. Overall Iona improves to 12-6 on the season and are 7-1 in Metro Atlantic Conference Play, continuing to equal the best start to MAAC play since 2018. With 24 digs in the match, junior libero

Match SUMMARY
Set 1 (25-21)
After an attack error, Quinnipiac jumped out to a 7-3 lead but soon after the Gaels offense got going, catapulting a 10-2 run to gain control of the set. Kills from
Nerin Valasakos,
Greta Stjade,
Samantha Juran and
Fleur Wiersma helped turn the tide but four straight points from the Bobcats pushed the home team back into the set.
Elena Bianchi picked up a crucial kill at 19-18 and now in front 23-21, Iona closed out the opening set winning the final two points on a  kill from Valasakos and an attack error.
Set 2 (17-25)
The Bobcats responded and quickly took control of the second set, opening up a lead of 17-10. Bianchi and Valasakos chipped in kills helping the Gaels cut into the deficit at 23-17, but Quinnipiac won the final three points of the set, all on kills to even up the match at a set apiece.
Set 3 (25-20)
After falling behind 3-0, Iona countered winning the following four points and from there neither team could create much separation. After trading points, kills from Valasakos and Bianchi gave Iona a 15-11 lead, but Quinnipiac answered with three straight points to bring the Bobcats within a point.
Morgan Madasz added a kill, capping a 5-2 stretch for the Gaels and leading 22-20 Iona capitalized on three consecutive attack errors from Quinnipiac to take the third set.
Set 4 (25-22)
The Gaels rallied in the fourth and final set, erasing a five point deficit after falling behind 11-6, halfway through the frame. Iona stormed back, using an 8-1 run, to retake the lead for the final time on the afternoon, taking advantage of four errors during the stretch. Late kills from Valasakos and Madasz helped keep Iona in control and leading 24-22, the Gaels closed out their sixth straight win on an attack error to eanr the four-set road victroy.
STAT LEADERS
ON OFFENSE
- Valasakos (13) and Bianchi (10) recorded double-figures in kills with Madasz (7) and Stjade (6) rounding out the offensive attack.
- Tamara Pichardo (18) Juran (16) accounted for 34 of the Gaels 39 assists.Â
ON DEFENSE
- Matschner led the defensive efforts with a match-high 24 digs to go along with Pichardo (9) and Valasakos (8) contributing on the defensive side.
- Fleur Wiersma continued to show her presence at the net, recording a career-high 7 blocks in the victory.

The Gaels will stay in Connecticut to play defending MAAC Champions Fairfield, who are  currently sitting atop of the standings  tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm.Â
