The Iona University men's soccer team visits top-seeded Quinnipiac on Sunday, November 13 at noon for the 2022 MAAC Championship. The Gaels earned the No. 2 seed in the postseason after finishing the regular season with a 5-1-4 mark in league play. Iona edged out No. 3 Manhattan on Thursday, 1-0, at Mazzella Field on the strength of Matias Morales' third-minute goal. No. 1 Quinnipiac avenged its regular-season finale loss to Niagara, ending the Purple Eagles' season with a 5-2 drubbing in the MAAC Semifinal.

The two schools met earlier this season in Hamden, a 1-1 draw. Aly Camara opened the scoring in the 37th minute, but Quinnipiac's Jared Smith scored in the 90th minute to steal a point.

Iona and Quinnipiac last met in the postseason in 2019, a road win for Iona en route to the program's first-ever MAAC title and NCAA Tournament berth.

Iona had seven athletes earn placement on All-MAAC teams, while Quinnipiac boasted six All-MAAC honorees and three major award winners. David Bercedo earned the MAAC Golden Boot, Alexander Stjernegaard captured MAAC Rookie of the Year honors and Eric Da Costa was voted the MAAC Coach of the Year.

The Bobcats are unbeaten at home this season, entering play on Sunday with an unblemished 8-0-1 mark in Hamden. Quinnipiac is among the nation's top-scoring offenses, having scored 46 goals over 18 games, the fourth-highest goal total of any team in the country so far this year. The Bobcats rank ninth in assists per game and their +25 goal differential is eleventh-best in the NCAA. In the most recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I East Region Poll, the Bobcats were selected No. 7 overall.

Head coach James Hamilton has guided Iona, picked to finish ninth in the 2022 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, to the postseason for the fifth time in seven seasons. Iona is 3-0-1 in Hamden since 2017, including the MAAC Semifinal victory in 2019.
