NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team lost to Fairfield, 54-29, on Thursday night at the Hynes Center.
Olivia Vezaldenos scored a team-high 12 points in the loss.
Iona managed to hang with the Stags early on, opening up the evening with a 3-0 lead courtesy of a Vezaldenos triple, but early fouling spelled trouble for the Maroon & Gold. Juana Camilion, fresh off a season-high 23 points at Siena, picked up a second foul with just over two minutes to play in the first, exiting the game afterwards. Fairfield led 11-7 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Stags outscored the Gaels 14-5 in the second quarter thanks mainly to an 11-2 run across the final six-plus minutes of the half. Fairfield held a 25-12 lead at the break.
Iona traded baskets with Fairfield in the third, but could not string together stops or scores to cut into the lead. An 8-2 run, followed by a 7-2 run helped the visitors build a 22-point cushion before Judith Gomez cashed in on a trifecta at the buzzer to make it 40-21 heading into the fourth.
Fairfield continued to build upon its lead in the fourth quarter, eventually heading home with a 54-29 victory over the Gaels in New Rochelle.

- Vezaldenos led the offense with 12 points in the loss. She has reached double-digit points for the 10th time this season and 18th time in her career. The Gaels are 8-10 when Vezaldenos scores at least 10 points.
- Camilion was held scoreless for the first time in her career, playing her 89th game and making her 88th start as a member of the Maroon & Gold.
- Iona's 29 points came on 11-47 (23.4%) shooting. The 29 points and 23.4 percent mark from the floor were season lows for the Maroon & Gold. Iona's scoring output was its lowest since totaling the same amount in a road loss to Rutgers on December 18, 2011.
- Fairfield improves to 64-30 in the all-time season series between the two teams and completes the sweep of the season series.
