EASTON, PA - Iona women's lacrosse stays hot with their fifth straight win earlier this afternoon, the Gaels went on the road to Lafayetter and came out victorious, 15-10. Iona was led on offense by junior Emily Stewart with five goals.

GAME SUMMARY

Along with Stewart, senior Leah Marshall was a huge contributor on offense finding the back of the net four times and assisted on one goal. Gabriele Thornthon netted two goals herself and the rest of the four came from Emma Rippon, Katherine Meyer, Alexa Maggiacomo and freshman Kira Varada. Marshall led the team with a staggering eight draw controls out of the team's 19.

Freshman Sofia Votto earned her fourth win today playing all 60 minutes, making seven saves allowing 10 goals. She faced 25 total shots with 17 of them being on net. As a team the Maroon & Gold picked up 11 ground balls and caused five turnovers. Emily Stewart led the team in both categories with 3 ground balls and 2 CT's.

Stewart opened the scoring at the 12:26 mark with her 12th goal of the season, Maggiacomo followed up with her third of the season. Iona's last goal of the opening quarter came from the stick of Marshall. Lafayette was able to make it a one goal lead for the Gaels entering the second quarter.

Just over a minute into the second quarter the host team knotted things up at 3-3. Stewart answered and gave the Gaels the lead once again off a free position chance. The Leopards did not back down, sneaking one past Votto and we had a tie game again. Two very quick goals 13 seconds apart from Marshall and Meyer extended the Iona lead back to two.

Once again the home team had answered with two goals of their own knotting at six apiece. Over the last four minutes of the first half the Maroon & Gold out scored Lafayette 3-1 and took a 9-7 lead entering half time. Within the first two minutes of the second half Iona jumped to a four goal lead, 11-7 after goals from Marshall and Thornton.

Iona's offense came to halt in the third quarter with Lafayette coming back with two goals and cutting the Gaels lead to two entering the final 15 minutes. Iona out scored the Leopards 4-1 in the final quarter, as the defense stepped up big and closed out the Gaels fifth straight W.
