Sofia Votto tied a career high with 13 saves in the loss.
Iona's offense was led by Alexa Maggiacomo, Emily Stewart, and Amber Brewster, all three scored two goals each. The other lone goal came off the stick of senior Kati Paavola. As a team, the Maroon & Gold assisted on two of seven goals coming from Collins and Maggiacomo. Iona took 29 shots with 22 on goal.Â
Sofia Votto faced 33 shots and made huge saves throughout the game to keep Iona close. Iona picked up 15 ground balls, controlled 12 draws and caused seven turnovers. The Gaels struggled clearing the ball today, going 14 for 18 on clear attempts.          Â
GAME SUMMARY
The visitors opened the scoring in the first minute of the game. The Gaels answered quickly as Stewart got the Maroon & Gold on the board and knotted things up at 1-1. The Bobcats scored three unanswered goals taking a three goal lead 4-1 with three minutes left in the first half.Â
Stewart notched her second of the game and second of the quarter to trim the Bobcat lead to one. With eight seconds left of the clock the visitors snuck one past Votto extending their lead back to three. Iona would fail to get the game closer than three goals for the rest of the game.
The second and third quarter combined for six total goals. Quinnipiac out scored us 2-1 in the second frame and Iona outscored the Bobcats 2-1 in the third. Iona's goals in the second and third came off the stick of Maggiacomo, Brewster, and Paavola. Iona ended the third quarter down three goals.Â
Quinnipiac started the socinr for the fourth straight quarter today. Maggiacomo was able to keep the game in striking distance with ehr second of the game. Two quick goals by Quinnpiac just 43 seconds apart gave them a five goal lead with ten minutes left to play. The last goal of the game came off the stick of Brewster with 9:43 left to play. Key turnovers by the Quinnipiac defense gave them the victory, 11-7. Iona can make the playoffs with a win over Marist and a Manhattan loss to Niagara.      Â
UP NEXT
Iona will be back in action next week at home on April 23rd at 1pm against Marist. It will be the last regular season game for the Gaels and the Senior day ceremony will start at 11:55 am.  Â
