Andy Mueller Tabbed Iona Volleyball Head Coach

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona University Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski announced the appointment of Andy Mueller head coach of the Iona volleyball program. Mueller most recently served as assistant head coach at Long Island University.

"We are thrilled to welcome Andy into the Iona family," Glovaski said. "Andy has all the tools and experience necessary to lead our volleyball program and we look forward to seeing how he positively impacts the program down the road."

In his last season at LIU, Mueller helped the program achieve its best win percentage in league play in the Sharks' three-year history.

"I am honored and excited to be named the head coach of Iona University's volleyball team! I want to start by thanking Ken Ko and all the student athletes at LIU," Mueller said. "My development as a coach and leader is attributed greatly to Ken's guidance. The camaraderie and friendship we've built throughout the years as a staff has allowed us to develop high-level student-athletes and even better, incredible young adults. I'm excited to bring that level of trust and excellence to Iona. I would also like to thank Matthew Glovaski, Lucy Gunton-Jones and the entire Iona University hiring committee for the opportunity to lead this program. This is an opportunity that I won't take lightly and for that I'm grateful."

Mueller landed at LIU after a three-year stint at St. Francis Brooklyn, where he served as the Terrier's top assistant and recruiting coordinator on the women's side. In addition to his work with the women, Mueller was named the inaugural head coach for the men's volleyball program in 2018. He mentored the women's program's first two-time All-NEC performer in Dominique Gerard and was instrumental in launching the men's program.

Mueller's coaching career began at his alma mater, Columbia College, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics institution in Columbia, Missouri. He was a part of a coaching staff that guided the program to a remarkable 119-3 record, as well as the NAIA National Championship Game in 2010 and a Final Four appearance in the following season.

He ascended to the Division I ranks, spending time as an assistant at Fordham and Columbia before landing his first collegiate head coaching job at Brooklyn College. Mueller led the Bulldogs to a conference quarterfinals appearance in his lone season with the program before moving on to St. Francis Brooklyn.

In addition to his collegiate coaching stops, Mueller has a plethora of experience coaching at the club level. Mueller was the head coach, associate director and college recruiting coordinator for the NYC Juniors Volleyball Club. He also boasts experience coaching at the national level, spending time as an assistant and associate head coach with USA Volleyball.

Mueller is a 2011 graduate of Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
