Iona WSOC Battles Back, Earns Draw at Colgate

HAMILTON, NY - The Iona University women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals after falling behind early, eventually earning a 2-2 draw at Colgate. Brooke Delsignore scored the first goal of her collegiate career for Iona's first tally of 2022 in the waning moments of the first half. Kedarjah Lewis evened the score at two in the 84th minute.

MATCH SUMMARY

Colgate opened the scoring early, finding twine on its first shot of the evening in the third minute. After a pair of unsuccessful corner kicks and saves by Emma Havrilla, Iona's first shot of the night came from Mackenzie Meixner on a free kick. After some more back-and-forth, the Raiders expanded their lead to two goals in the 34th minute.

The Maroon & Gold shifted momentum late in the half. A ball played to the box deflected out to Delsignore who blasted a shot past Emma Hickey in the 44th minute. Caroline Scott started the second half in net for the Gaels, stopping the first shot she faced seven minutes in. Minutes later, Scott received some help from her defense on a try by Emily Amano, which was stopped on the goal line by a Gael defender.

Scott went on to make four more saves, holding off Colgate's pressure and setting Iona up for a late equalizing goal. Kate McNally played a ball long from midfield to Lewis, who raced down the pitch and angled a grounded shot into the far corner of the net. The goal evened the match at 2-2 with less than seven minutes to play. The score would stand and Iona played to its second straight draw to begin the 2022 season.
