THE RUNDOWN

Iona opened the contest with a 13-4 run, forcing Niagara into calling its first timeout less than three minutes into action. The timeout did not slow Iona, who led 6-1 at the 7:11 mark. Niagara pulled to within one possession of Iona midway through the frame, but a 13-2 Iona run to close the half saw the Maroon & Gold carry a 34-23 advantage into the intermission at the Hynes Athletics Center.

The Gaels continued to add to its comfortable cushion in the second half, padding their lead to a game-high 17 points at the midway portion of the third quarter. The lead stood at 17 points as the game headed towards the final 10 minutes of action.
