Iona MBB Falls at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT - The Iona University men's basketball team never led in an 81-58 defeat at Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at M&T Bank Arena. Junior Daniss Jenkins led four players in double-figures with 17 points in the loss.

THE RUNDOWN

Quinnipiac scored the first nine points of the contest and never looked back. Iona cut it to three points at 10-7 the 13:57 mark but the Bobcats responded with 12 straight points to earn a 22-7 advantage just over four minutes later. Iona struggled mightily from the field to start the match. Jenkins had all five Gael field goals before rookie Cruz Davis' jumper with just under four minutes remaining in the frame. In total, the Gaels were just 8-for-30 in the half and trailed by 14 at the break.

Over the first nine minutes of the second half, Quinnipiac went on a 24-6 run as the Gaels shooting woes continued. Davis connected on the lone field goal in the time frame. The Bobcats did damage at the free throw line, scoring nearly half of its points from the foul line. Iona answered with a nearly identical 24-7 run over the next nine minutes to cut it to 15 late in the game. Quinnipiac scored the final eight points to account for the final margin.
