FAIRFIELD, CT - The Iona University Volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Fairfield in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Mahoney Arena. After a two-point loss in the first set, the Gaels fell 25-17 and 25-18 in the final two.
THE RUNDOWN
A crucial ruling on set point in the opening frame turned a potential set winning tally for the Maroon & Gold into a 24-24 tie score. The Stags rallied and scored the final two points for the 26-24 opening frame win. Fairfield controlled most of the final two sets to earn the home win.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Senior Morgan Madasz led the Gaels with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. She added a solo block for a team-best 12.0 points.
- Sophomore Mackenzie Wiggins had 10 kills and two blocks while adding 12 digs for a double-double.
- Junior setter Tamara Pichardo had 34 assists with four digs and two aces.
- Senior libero Hope Matschner posted 33 digs and was 13-for-13 on serve receptions in the three set defeat.
- Sophomore Rose Porter posted 12 digs for the Maroon & Gold.
THE OPPONENT
- Fairfield was led by a 12-kill, four block effort by Mikayla Haut.
- Setter Blakely Montgomery had 28 assists and 21 digs.
- Libero Kyla Berg had 17 digs.
UP NEXT
The Gaels return to action this weekend for one match on the road at Manhattan on Saturday afternoon.
