Iona MSOC Extends Winning Streak to Seven With 1-0 Shut Out at Marist

Poughkeepsie, NY — The Iona University men's soccer team earned its seventh straight victory on Wednesday night, shutting out Marist, 1-0 at Tenney Stadium. The Maroon & Gold improve to 8-2 on the season and move to the top of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings with a 6-0 league record.

Junior Nacho Alfaro Monge registered three saves in the shut-out, his second of the season and the 10th in his career with the Maroon & Gold. Junior Thiago Cagna picked up his second goal of the season and senior Aly Camara recorded his third assist on the year.

THE GOAL

Iona's offense has a propensity to strike early, and got going Wednesday night just under five minutes into the contest. Junior Tim Timchenko sent a long kick into the Marist zone, a solid 50-50 ball for Camara to collect just inside the Marist box. Camara scoped out the Red Fox defense and found Cagna cutting towards the goal. Cagna took one dribble and fired his shot from 15-yards to the lower left side of the net.

THE STATS

Both teams were nearly even on shots for the night, with Marist holding a 11-9 advantage and Iona possessing a 4-3 edge for shots on target. Two of Alfaro Monge's saves came in 60th and 68th minute. Gameplay between both teams was slow on the night with a combined 35 fouls committed.
