NEW ROCHELLE, NY— The Iona University women's soccer team closed out its home slate on Saturday afternoon, falling to Fairfield, 6-1 at Mazzella Field.
Prior to the game, the Gaels honored nine seniors in the class of 2024:

Iona looked to start the game of strong with a pair of shot attempts by graduate student
Samantha Hogan in the sixth minute of action. Hogan fired back to back shots from 12 yards out but was blocked away by the Stags defense. Fairfield quickly took command of the game scoring goals in the 17th and 23rd minute for the 2-0 lead.
Out of the half, the Stags rifled two quick shot attempts but were denied by junior goalkeeper
Caroline Scott. The offensive pressure continued for Fairfield with a goal in the 53rd minute.
Iona scored in the 57th minute on a cross from the left side by McNally to find Stout wide open to score her first career goal. The assist by McNally was the eighth of her career, moving to a tie in seventh all-time in program history for career assists.
Fairfield closed the game with three more goals in the 61st, 67th and 69th minute to take home the win. The Stags held a 19-10 shot advantage over the Gaels, including a 12-3 mark on target.

The Gaels conclude the 2023 season on Wednesday (October 25) for a 3 p.m. kick-off at Siena.
