WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Iona University baseball team fell in their final game at Brooks Field, losing to Georgetown 13-2, on Sunday afternoon.
James Kemp drove in both Iona runs on an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Game Summary
The Hoyas began the afternoon scoring a run in the first and second but Iona starter
Alex Hunt settled in after that. Hunt picked up an inning ending strikeout in the second and followed up by pitching a scoreless third, adding two more strikeouts.Â
Clark Eder relieved Hunt and pitched a scoreless fourth but Georgetown capitalized in the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 7-0 lead. The Hoyas added to the lead in the next inning on a three-run homer from Owen Carapellotti, making it 10-0.
Georgetown scored their final runs of the day in the eighth on a fielder's choice and a two-run RBI single from Luke Bauer but
Thomas O'Sullivan came in relief and kept the Hoyas off the board the rest of the way, pitching a scoreless 1.1, adding two strikeouts.
After three walks in the home half of the eighth, Kemp got the Gaels on the board with a two-run RBI double down the right field line, scoring Josiah Regsdale and
Jayson Gonzalez on the play. Unfortunately Iona wouldn't manage anymore runs as the Gaels fell to the Hoyas 13-2 on Sunday afternoon.
