Iona WBB Wins 11th Straight, Camilion Sets Program Steals Record

BUFFALO, NY - The Iona University women's basketball team defeated Canisius, 68-58, on Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center. Juana Camilion scored a season-high 22 points and set the Iona women's basketball program record, registering the 250th steal of her Maroon & Gold career.

THE RUNDOWN

Iona jumped out to a 24-21 lead in a high-scoring first quarter that featured a combined eight three-point field goals, six of which Iona was responsible for. Kate Mager connected on four of her five attempts from downtown in the opening frame. After a combined 45 points in the first 10 minutes of action, the two sides scored just 22 points heading into the halftime break. Iona held a 37-30 edge and never relinquished it in the second half.

Iona held off Canisius in the third period, though the Griffs managed to make it a one-possession game early on out of the locker room. The Gaels stymied a short Griffs run and proceeded to use a 21-6 run that spanned two quarters and more than 14 minutes to build an 18-point lead with just over five minutes to play. Efficient free throw shooting again helped Iona comfortably close out a game and win its 11th straight MAAC contest.
