Iona WBB Announces Addition of Mid-Year Transfer Aizhanique Mayo

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona University women's basketball announced the addition of Aizhanique Mayo, a mid-year transfer from Marquette University. Mayo joined the program at the semester break in January.

"We are thrilled to add a local standout to our roster. Nique is such a dynamic addition to our program. Not only is she a tremendous scorer that plays the game with an incredibly high IQ, she can run the point guard spot with ease and is an adept passer," head coach Billi Chambers said. "Defensively, she is tough, active and can guard multiple positions so she will fit perfectly into our goal to be one of the best defensive teams in the MAAC. Nique has transitioned smoothly into our program, practicing with the team and helping us prepare for our MAAC Championship run. She will be ready to immediately contribute to this program's continued success."
 
Mayo is from nearby Bridgeport, Connecticut and played scholastically at Notre Dame Catholic HS. In her time at Notre Dame, Mayo was a two-time SWC Champion, the 2021 SWC Tournament MVP, a two-time CHSCA All-State selection, a three-time All-SWC First Team honoree, a two-time finalist for State Gatorade Player of the Year and the MaxPreps Connecticut High School Player of the Year.
