JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Iona University women's basketball team defeated Saint Peter's, 64-56, in the regular season finale on Saturday evening at Run Baby Run Arena.
Ketsia Athias posted a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double in the victory.
THE RUNDOWN
Iona and Saint Peter's battled for 40 minutes, but it was a stretch late in the game where the Gaels managed to distance themselves from the Peacocks and end the regular season on a high note.
The Maroon & Gold led by just one point after three quarters and it remained a one-possession lead by the time the clock ticked under five minutes to play. The difference-maker for Iona was a pair of nearly identical corner threes from Thoranna Hodge-Carr on back-to-back possessions. The second of which extended Iona's lead to nine points, the largest of the night, and forced Saint Peter's to call a timeout.
The Peacocks never found their footing from that point on, closing the gap to four points but never coming within a possession of the Gaels. Iona did its job from the charity stripe, closing out an 18th conference win of the season to head into the tournament.
