Jake Field continued
his hot stretch at the plate with a career-high six RBI's including two home-runs and a two-run double. In his last four games, the reigning MAAC Player of the Week has four home-runs and 14 runs batted in.
Game Summary
Quinnipiac opened the scoring with a home-run and RBI double to go in front 2-0, and following a six run second inning, the Bobcats extended the lead to 8-0.
Michael Lorenzetti picked up an inning ending strikeout to get Iona out of the second inning.
The Gaels bats came alive in the third inning, scoring four runs to cut the deficit in half. With the bases-loaded,
Will Jennings got Iona on the board with a sac-fly and Field followed up, launching a three-run homer to center field. Field made his second trip around the bases in the fifth inning, hitting a solo home-run, this time to left field for his second multi home-run game on the season.
Trailing 13-5, Field brought Iona within six runs following a two-run double, scoring
Nickolas Mora and
Chris Mariani on the play. With his fifth and sixth RBI on the afternoon, Field tied an Iona record for most runs driven in since 2016.
With two runners on in the seventh inning, Mariani hit his first home-run of the season to cut the Quinnipiac lead to 19-10. Iona has now scored 10 runs or more in three of there last five ball games.
Quinnipiac added runs in the seventh and eighth inning before taking game one of the series, 24-10 from QU Baseball Field.
