QUEENS, NY - The Iona University baseball team dropped its mid-week contest, losing to St. John's 13-3, in seven innings at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Wednesday night. For the third time in four games,
Anthony Zollo and
Will Jennings each recorded RBI's, accounting for Iona's three runs in the loss.
Game Summary
St. John's began the game scoring on a sac-fly from Blake Mayberry but with the bases still loaded,
Michael Untracht picked up an inning ending strikeout. The Red Storm managed to tack on for two more runs in the second inning scoring on multiple RBI singles.
Cooper Haseley came on to pitch the third inning and worked a scoreless frame but in the ensuing inning, St. John's extended the lead on a two-run homer. Haseley quickly recovered, picking up an inning strikeout to close out the fourth inning. Following three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth, the Red Storm pushed their lead 10-0 after six innings of play.
Iona's offense broke through in the seventh, scoring three runs on multiple hits to get on the board. After
Nickolas Mora reached on an error,
Anthony Febo followed up with a single, setting the Gaels up with a scoring opportunity. Zollo delivered, going the other way on an RBI double to score Iona's first run and Jennings drove in Febo on a fielder's choice. Following a passed ball during the ensuing at-bat, Zollo scored from third base, cutting the deficit to 10-3.
However, St. John's scored three runs in the seventh and final inning to close out the non-conference victory on Wednesday night. The Gaels and Red Storm will meet again a week from today at 6:00 PM from Jack Kaiser Stadium.

Iona will return to City Park this weekend, welcoming in the Rider Broncs. Game one of the series is scheduled Friday, May 5 at 3:00 PM.
