NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University women's soccer team fell to Wagner, 1-0, in a non-conference contest at Mazzella Field. Both the Gaels (1-4) and Seahawks were scoreless in a defensive bout in the first half, until the game's sole goal in the 51st minute by the visitors.

Iona held a 9-5 advantage in shots, with seven different Gaels recording an attempt. Senior
Kayla Thomas had a team-high three shots with the lone on target try for the Maroon & Gold.  Thomas' point-blank shot in the 79th minute found the hand of the Wagner keeper who deflected the ball just over the cross bar to keep Iona off the scoreboard. The Seahawks recorded three shots on goal.

The Gaels will look ahead to a three-game road trip consisting of two non-conference tilts and its first MAAC game. The trip begins at the ACC's Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this Sunday, September 3, at 1 p.m.
