NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Niagara in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Mazzella Field. The Purple Eagles scored the game's lone goal with 17-plus minutes remaining to spoil the Gaels' conference home opener.

Iona controlled 60% of the overall possession in the game but was outshot 20-9 overall. Freshman keeper
Savannah Rogers made six saves in the loss. Four of the Gaels' nine shot attempts came off the foot of senior
Samantha Hogan, including two resulting in Niagara saves.

Niagara's Emma Bough found the back of the net off a rebound of an Isabella Mazzaferro attempt in the 73rd minute to give the visitors the lead.

The Gaels begin a three-game road trip to complete the month beginning at UMBC Thursday (September 21) followed by Penn (September 27) and Canisius (September 30).
