HAMDEN, CT — The Iona University men's soccer earned a 1-0 shutout win at Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Saturday Afternoon at QU Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. A goal from team leading junior
Sergio Gonzalez Fernandez was all the Gaels needed.
Gonzalez Fernandez's seventh goal of the season came from the penalty spot in the 78th minute. He shares the MAAC lead in goals scored with Manhattan's Ziv Dahan.

Out of the half, the Gaels attack stepped up and put the pressure on the Bobcats. Throughout the half many opportunities came for Gaels as their defense held Quinnipiac's attack at bay.
It was not until the 78th minute when the Gaels earned a penalty off of a corner kick. From the spot, Gonzalez Fernandez stepped up and slotted it in the bottom left corner to give the Maroon & Gold the 1-0 lead in the waning minutes.
The Gaels were able to deny any chances for the Bobcats in the last minutes of the game and hold onto the 1-0 win away.
